Single Stories: "The Amazing You"

The Amazing You
Me and the old Taylor acoustic guitar working The Amazing You

I wrote the song in 2020 in the dark early days of the COVID-19 Pandemic. It's about that special something or someone who gave us hope during a sad and challenging time in our history.

Lyrics

The Amazing You

(Words and music by Ted Reyes)

In this strange and lonely world of breakouts and lockdowns,

Somebody just opened a little window

Disappearing from the sky

The cloud of isolation

That blocked the golden rays of the morning sun

And now, I can see

And now, I'm OK

It's not an unusual spell

Just someone

I began to see the mornings

Enjoy the misty evenings

Ever since you opened up my mind

As we try to keep our distance

Six feet to a hundred

I can hear your heartbeat close to mine

And now, I can see

And now, I'm OK

It's not an unusual spell

Just someone

It's the amazing you

Recording

I wanted this song to be straightforward, so I played our old Taylor acoustic guitar in open G tuning and my trusty Fender Jazz bass.

JP Ramos played and recorded the exceptional drum track (Thanks!).

The string section was all Logic Studio samples. They sound great.

This song has a special place in my heart, so I hope you like it as much as I did in making this song.
